Background of the Study

Mobile immunization clinics (MICs) have been established to improve vaccine access in hard-to-reach areas where traditional healthcare facilities are scarce. These clinics provide vaccines to populations living in remote locations, reducing the risk of vaccine-preventable diseases. In Taraba State, MICs have been introduced to address low immunization coverage due to geographical barriers, poor healthcare infrastructure, and nomadic populations (UNICEF, 2024). However, the effectiveness of MICs in improving vaccine coverage in these areas remains underexplored.

Statement of the Problem

Despite the introduction of MICs, immunization coverage in remote areas of Taraba State remains inconsistent. Challenges such as inadequate staffing, logistical constraints, and community resistance affect their effectiveness. This study seeks to assess the impact of MICs and identify areas for improvement.

Objectives of the Study

1. To evaluate the effectiveness of mobile immunization clinics in improving vaccine coverage.

2. To assess the challenges faced by MICs in hard-to-reach areas.

3. To explore strategies for enhancing the impact of MICs on immunization.

Research Questions

1. How effective are mobile immunization clinics in increasing vaccine uptake in hard-to-reach areas?

2. What challenges do MICs face in providing immunization services?

3. What strategies can be implemented to improve MIC effectiveness?

Research Hypotheses

1. MICs significantly improve vaccine coverage in remote areas.

2. Logistical and staffing challenges hinder the effectiveness of MICs.

3. Strengthening MIC infrastructure will enhance vaccine accessibility.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study will focus on MICs operating in Taraba State, including healthcare workers and community members. Limitations may include logistical difficulties in reaching study locations and incomplete immunization records.

Definitions of Terms

• Mobile Immunization Clinics (MICs): Traveling healthcare units providing vaccines in underserved areas.

• Hard-to-Reach Areas: Locations with limited access to healthcare facilities due to geographical or infrastructural constraints.

• Vaccine Coverage: The proportion of the population receiving immunization.
